Relaxed Farming Food: Coriander
Click to return to the previous page...
Coriander is a herb which is quite easy to grow, and all of the plant, including the roots, are edible.
The young leaves are delightful when chopped and added to salads or sprinkled over a soup or stew. The stems may be stir fried alongside onions, courgettes and other vegetables and the roots (washed!!) may also be added to this type of dish. The coriander plant may also be allowed to flower and set fruit (when dried these are called coriander seeds), and these seeds may also be cooked - many Indian dishes include coriander!
A few of the coriander plants are in a pot outside the kitchen window - ready for picking!
Relaxed Farming
We sow coriander seeds several times during the year which gives us a constant supply of this delightful plant from late April through to October. Like most herbs and vegetables, the young leaves are the tastiest, athough the goats adore the coriander no matter how old it is!
The row of coriander seedlings shown below is a little crowded - we will start picking some of the seedlings in a week or so to 'thin' out the row.
