And here is the lovely Satin, showing what a varied and exciting life she leads.. well actually, here is Satin showing where you will ALWAYS find her: on top of the hay racks in the pygmy goat stall. Other than sleeping (although she has been known to sleep here as well), this is where she spends virtually ALL her waking hours. She probably thinks the tops on the hay racks were made just for her so she can stand or kneel and pull out strands of hay, with no competition from any of the others pushing her out of the way. In fact the tops were made to stop too much hay being pulled from the top and so being wasted but also so that when little monkeys like Satin jump in the racks, they won't then get their legs caught in the wire and hurt themselves.
The worst of it is that she even has been known to wee and poo whilst up there... the other day we found her poo on TOP of Jupiter's head. She had obviously poo-ed whilst he was at the rack with his head bent down munching away. Okay, that is disgusting!! Good thing pygmy goat poo is hard and dry!!!!
Satin is a very sweet goat though - she is a little less shy than she was and she really is incredibly similar looking to her mum. She and Parsley are really close still and we do catch Satin trying to have the odd feed still - Parsley doesn't let her do it too much mind you which is good as she needs to be concentrating on the new kids inside her now. Satin is quite bold but she knows her place in the pecking order and won't challenge those at the top. Interestingly, Sage gets on well with her despite being much older and quite near the top of the pecking order herself. We put this down to the fact Sage is Parsley's best friend and so 'puts up with' Satin because she is her friend's daughter!!! We wonder how Satin will feel when her 'new' brothers and/or sisters arrive in the spring. She is of course too young to have her own kids yet and as all the other females around her are pregnant, the behaviour within the group and their relationships with her will change as kidding time draws near. It will be interesting to see how she responds!!!
