This is Pepper, aged one week, one month and one year respectively!!! And the reason for looking back at what a cute kid he was? Well, two weeks ago we made the decision to sell him - this was after months of debating 'should we, shouldn't we?' and today was the day he went to his new home. Although our reasons for selling him are good ones, it was still really sad to see him go.
Pepper is now just over 21 months old and he has lived with us all his life. We first thought about selling him back in August when a friend showed some interest but in the end they decided not to have him. A few weeks ago however, we decided we should perhaps see if we could find him a new home. We love Pepper to bits BUT our space here is limited as you know, and as we still have Satin (Parsley's kid from this year), our pygmy stall is quite busy now and with kidding in February, is going to get busier. As you may recall from last month, we had started to feed Pepper on his own so that our in-kid girls could eat in peace and quiet - as they get ever more pregnant, this is ever more important.
Pepper has gone to live with another goat called Jethro who has been on his own since his mate 'Bob' died. Jethro and Pepper are similar ages and his new owners have children, chickens and a dog and having had an 'email' conversation and then met them, we are as confident as we can be that Pepper has gone to a really good home.
When Pepper was born he was really tiny and he also had a bent ear: this made him extra especially cute. We did not sell him at the same time as the other kids that year because we wanted to be sure he was going to develop okay. We need not have worried - he has!!
Even though there are still seven goats in the pygmy stall, it all felt very empty and quiet tonight!! It is going to take us a while to get used to him not being here!!! Our Talk Topic for today
