STILL no pygmy goat kids: Sage as you can see is just enormous and yet her kids seem quite happy to stay put for the moment. All six girls are just taking life easy and all the possible little signs we keep seeing are not yet turning into the start of any births!! When these kids are ready, they will come!! Today has been VERY cold and we had a covering of snow first thing so we cannot really blame the kids for not putting in an appearance still!!
And it is still early days with Thyme now on day 147, Sage and Nutmeg on day 146 and the others just on day 145 (the range is 145-155 days, with occasional births being one or two days earlier than this). One year Sage went all the way to day 152!!!! There are no set rules here, just as with many other animal births, including humans!!
Meanwhile over in the dairy goat stall all is calm too: Curds (pictured quietly asleep) and Pickle are due in three weeks, Cheddar and Gorge three weeks after that. With the sheep sometime in between we are in for a very exciting couple of months... exciting but almost definitely heart breaking too. Every year we kid and lamb we have losses: this is sadly normal despite the best possible care and attention - but the successes do make it all worthwhile, as we hope we will be showing you shortly!!!
