We did not take this photo of the fox BUT this morning we were close enough to a fox to have taken a similar shot... as were the alpacas. We DID take the shot of Gorge and Curds: more of them in a while.
The fox we saw was of course trying his (or her) luck in our poultry area but first time round he met Jack, second time around Neptune and Jupiter. Around 8am, Jack was in the poultry paddock filling up feeders and drinkers whilst the boys finished their breakfast, when suddenly a commotion in the corner occurred and a large fox (very similar looking to the one in the photo) sauntered in and began to chase the birds. Despite seeing Jack, SHE had to run over and actually chase him off, such was his cheek at thinking he could help himself to breakfast.
Twenty minutes later, by which time the alpacas had taken over guard duty, the fox was back but this time Neptune and Jupiter stood between him and the birds and reluctantly he turned around and left!!!
Once again, we have had a reminder that we can NEVER leave our birds unguarded and once again the alpacas have proved how brilliant they are at their job. Above all else we are delighted that the fox gets to run away unharmed as despite the fact foxes try to steal our birds, we really don't wish them hurt in any way!! They are, after all, behaving entirely naturally and simply trying to feed themselves and their families as all wild creatures have to!!
Gorge and Curds were caught on camera having a delightful slow motion head butting game. Despite both being heavily pregnant and 3 years and 8 years old, goats still love to play!!! And do you know, they NEVER accidentally hurt each other with their horns - they are so careful!!!
