Sunday, 5th April 2015

We have now had two dry days on the trot - no rain and much less wind and even quite a bit of sunshine - hooray!!! Our grass is definitely growing now and all the sheep, goats and alpacas are really tucking in!!! Less successful are the broody poultry. Banana is doing fine on her duck eggs (day 13 out of 31 today) and our golden bantam is also doing well with her chicken eggs (day 4 out of 21 today) BUT Napoleana seems not in the slightest bit broody any more. And the other turkeys are no better: Josephine and Katherine still lay in the compost heap, Victoria back in the barn and we still don't know if Camilla is laying any eggs at all.
And as for the ducks... well, we have no idea where Orange is laying any more! For the last two days we have not found a single duck egg at all!!! Our worry is that both she and Pear are laying their eggs somewhere out of the poultry paddock, and that one day one or both will disappear to start incubating them and we won't be able to protect them from the fox!!
We have now marked all the turkey eggs and duck eggs we have with a red dye and are leaving them in various poultry houses in the hope that one or more birds may take the hint, start laying in the same place and then go broody!!! We shall see!!!
Still no news from Cheddar and Gorge!!!
