Flip and Flop have had a very quiet first day - it was beautifully warm and sunny again so we took them and Cheddar outside into the main goat paddock where Cheddar spent most of her time grazing, whilst the kids spent most of theirs sleeping. Now they are completely dry they are both quite pale and incredibly pretty.
The three older kids pretty much ignored them - after all, what good are new friends who cannot leap and run and play??? Give it a week or so mind you and things will be very different.
Both Flip and Flop have had plenty of milk today, possibly too much as we had two very mucky bottoms by the evening - Cheddar is not quite so good at keeping her kids' bottoms clean as her own mum is (Curds). We may need to take a bucket of warm water down to the barn tomorrow to do a spot of cleaning. Lovely job!!
A bit like in humans, the first main poo is yellow in goat kids and lambs and if too much milk has been drunk it can become rather too soft and sticky. It is important to keep the bottoms clean as if the poo sticks too much, it can actually block the hole where the poo needs to come out!!!
On to more pleasant topics... Victoria is still laying in the barn and has now progressed to the same nest box where our golden bantam is incubating some eggs. We have to remember to collect Victoria's egg as soon as she has laid it, otherwise the bantam rolls it under her to start incubating it with her chicken eggs!!
And in really exciting news, it looks as though Napoleana IS now broody... more on this tomorrow!!!
