Dairy goat kids: our first week
Being licked clean and finding that all important first milk (containing colostrum - full of goodness) is what fillls the first hour or two of the newborn kids' lives. After that they take a few days to 'find their legs'. Dairy goat kids have long legs and skinny bodies and it takes them a while to be in complete control of both. Nonetheless they start to play and jump very quickly, although not always successfully, as you will see. Their mums don't let them wander off too far at all and as with a lot of very young animals, they also spend a lot of time sleeping.
