Basil
Planted on the 2nd March in a seed tray in the raised bed with a cloche on top to keep warm. Dozen or so seeds which will be replanted when strong enough. Need to keep a careful eye on these as the restricted light may mean weak and spindly growth.
First showing: 8 April
Second sowing: 19 April

Planted on the 2nd March in the ground in groups of three (one for the mice, one for the slugs and one for us!) spaced about 25cm apart and 5cm deep.
First showing: 3 April

Broccoli
Planted on the 19 April in the top bed - when large enough we will transplant these into the main beds. We are going to have to think anout the caterpillars, and are considering buying some nematodes to try and control these pests.

First early seed potatoes (Rocket) : click to discover more...
The 'sets' arrived from the seed merchant on the 5th March and were planted right away - we were a little late ordering seeds and sets this year so rather than wait for the potato sets to 'chit' we are popping them straight into the ground.

Courgette Ambassador F1: click to discover more...
Seed planted in the high bed in black plant pots to give as much warmth as possible - we really like this vegetable and the sooner we can pick and eat the better!

Carrots, leeks and parsnips
These three faithfuls from last year are still keeping going, though we think will be pulling the last of these by the end of March!
