Dr Olwyn Menzies: Writer
Olwyn grew up in Ireland and wanted to be a scientist before she knew how to spell the word. She studied geology and moved to England to carry out post-doctoral research on rocks from space - meteorites! Part of this work involved engaging with school children and getting them excited about science - introducing them to meteorites and all the fascinating things they can tell us about the Solar System and its origins. Olwyn found that she actually enjoyed teaching and the buzz of inspiring children more than grinding up rocks, firing x-rays at them and writing scientific papers! So she re-trained as a primary school teacher and spent some wonderful years teaching and organising gardening, science and eco activities at school. She is now taking a break from full-time teaching to live 'The Good Life' existence with various animals and to bring up her young family.
