Relaxed Farming Our offspring... (as told by Cheddar). This is where I get to tell you all about our kids, you're all going to want one (or two) by the time I've finished...

  • Goat kids are VERY high on the 'cute factor' scale: Read more

  • It all begins with the billy goat: like all mammals (including humans), a male and a female are needed to reproduce and have offspring. UNLIKE humans however, we can only successfully be mated with when we are having a 'season'. A season is a period of one to two(sometimes three) days when our eggs are ready to be fertilized by the billy goat's sperm. We have these seasons every 18-21 days from around the start of September untill February/March.

For our owners, knowing when we are in season is really important so that they can have a billy goat ready for us as well as planning exactly when they want us to have kids. Usually we let our owners know in three ways: firstly we scream a lot - not very ladylike I know but in the wild we need to get that billy goat's attention somehow! Pickle is the loudest screamer, Gorge the quietest (she can be sooooo good sometimes!).
Secondly we wag our tails (a bit like dogs when they are happy).
And thirdly (and this is a bit more embarrassing...) we become a bit swollen and damp at our back end... (don't want to say any more about this...). Moving on...
