Relaxed FarmingHow to look after us... (as answered by Mrs White). We don't need a lot of looking after, apart from at lambing time when it is best to keep a really close eye on us... and we do need to be well fenced in as that grass the other side does look good...

  • Get rid of those pesky flies: in the warmer spring and summer months flies can cause us real problems. The worst that can happen is a fly called a blowfly will lay its eggs in our fleece, the eggs hatch and then the larvae burrow into our skin!!This is called blowfly strike (because the fly 'strikes').

We get VERY sore and VERY itchy. Can you imagine? (No don't!) This usually happens if we have an open cut or wound or when we have mucky bottoms and fleeces - fraid we don't wipe our backsides like you do (see all about 'dagging' under Fascinating Facts).

Flies love smelly, damp places and they don't care if there is a living animal there as well. So, our bums need checking and if in doubt we can be sprayed with a special liquid that usually stops the flies landing in the first place.
