  • In the wild, the 'top' goat is a female: but she will have a male 'deputy' who will often go on ahead to find places to eat and sleep or rest.

A herd will be made up of anything up to 30 animals including older females, kids and young males and females. There is a strong pecking order and aside from the top female and the newest kid, all the goats will have goats above and below them.

When the goats eat and sleep and find places to lie down, the pecking order is there to decide who does what first!!

Even we 'domesticated' goats have our pecking order. With us Curds is top and I am second. The twins swap around a bit but usually Gorge is above Cheddar.
