Relaxed FarmingFascinating facts... (as explored by Pickle). That's me immediately to the right, munching away on willow after which I usually have a bit of a nap.. and here's your first fact: we sleep for just five hours a day, a lot less than you humans so I believe...

  • We are ruminants (and no that's not a pop group!!!). A ruminant is an animal with FOUR stomachs - yes I know, FOUR!! When we chew our food and then swallow it, it goes down to the first stomach where it sits for a bit, gets slightly broken down and then back it comes up into our mouths (is 'regurgitated') so we can chew some more (called chewing the cud, sheep do it too). Don't try this at home!!! I think that's what they call 'being sick' in humans!!

For us though it means we get the most out of our food because we then chew it into smaller bits. Second time round and the food goes to our second stomach and then onwards through our bodies till just the unwanted stuff comes out as poo!!

All this regurgitation means we get to burp a lot!! Great for us, not so great for you humans as I don't think you like the smell!!! My lovely owners (!!!) often tell me my burps are the worst (or best!!).

  • We have eight incisors (biting teeth): Read more
