Relaxed FarmingWhy keep chickens... (as answered by our Beechwood Blue). I am one of two BBs on the Relaxed smallholding. We are Hybrid birds (birds that have two different types as parents, in my case a Rhode Island Red and a Maran) and are friendly, calm and great layers - which brings me neatly onto why people keep chickens...

  • We make great pets: some of us do anyway (the Leghorns are a bit flighty...). Actually the best pets are often the pure breeds such as Silkies and Orpingtons (we have a Red Orpington here and often our owners buy in Orpington eggs to hatch).

We can get very friendly, perch on shoulders, come when called, sit in laps, etc. We also enjoy feeding from your hands. Most of us are quite inquisitive which you seem to like because this means we are always 'doing' something which makes us entertaining to watch!!

We are also very pretty so we look good in your garden!!
