Why keep goats... (as answered by Curds).
We make great smallholding animals and in years gone by most people who had a bit of land would keep a goat or two.
Why? Because we provide far more than most other farm animals...
Lots of people think we eat anything, well we don't: some of us are quite fussy BUT we do eat a variety of different foods and this can make us quite cheap to keep!
We are browsers, not grazers (if you want a lawn mower, speak to the sheep!!). We will clear your land of brambles (which we know gardeners hate), we won't eat all your grass (although we enjoy it at times) and we love all the leftovers from your vegetable garden (saving you the job of throwing them away/composting them, old thick cauliflower stalks take ages to compost but we LOVE them...).
We will however strip your trees of bark given half the chance, as I am demonstrating here in one of the photos with a willow branch.
We are intelligent, affectionate, inquisitive and playful: Read more
We adore willow... ...but are not so keen on raddishes!
